RYAN MURDOCK

Ryan Murdock is an RMAX Faculty Coach and Senior Editor of RMAX Magazine, the internet’s largest fitness and martial arts publication. He is the creator and star of the three-volume RMAX Powered Bujinkan DVD series and author of the RMAX Training Group Manual. He has been involved in martial arts for the past 20 years, and strength training for the past 25 years. He holds black belt rankings in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu and is one of four Head Coaches of the RMAX FlowFighting™ system. In 2006 he was inducted into the International Martial Arts Hall of Fame as Master Instructor of the Year.

As one of only four Faculty Coaches handpicked by RMAX founder Scott Sonnon for his elite Coaching Staff, Murdock has taken a leading role in the research and development of Circular Strength Training® (CST) and of RMAX FlowFighting™. He certifies CST Instructors and Coaches, conducts seminars worldwide, and works with a wide range of private clients including professional athletes, NHB fighters, and rock stars such as Jim Gillette of Nitro and Lita Ford.

Training Offered
Coach Murdock conducts training in all three wings of the CST® system:
1) Intu-Flow® joint mobility
2) Prasara yoga
3) Clubbell® Athletics (the weighted wing of CST)

Clients can enjoy being coached through the flagship CST programs in each of the three wings (such as FlowFit™, Ageless Mobility™, the Prasara Yoga flows, etc) , as well as tailored CST workouts that draw on a balance of all three wings to work towards a particular goal or performance in a specific sport or endeavor. All training programs come from CST’s unique “health-first” perspective, so you can be sure that you’re pursuing optimal health regardless of your goal.

The CST system was originally developed for fighters, and Coach Murdock also specializes in the application of RMAX technologies to fast track performance in martial arts and fighting sports. His three-volume RMAX Powered Bujinkan DVD series is an example of this work. The first two volumes present a progressive regime of conditioning specifically targeted to the needs of Bujinkan martial art practitioners, from GPP (general physical preparedness) to SPP (specific physical preparedness). Building upon that base of preparation, the third volume takes it to the mats in an application of modern sports science to martial tradition that charts a fast track to mastery through the specific adaptation of progressive drill structures and concepts. Fight-specific workouts are Coach Murdock’s specialty.

Travel Writing and Expeditions

In addition to his work with RMAX, Ryan Murdock regularly puts his training to the test in some of the world’s most unforgiving places as a widely published travel writer / explorer. This pursuit has taken him to 30 countries to date, including Mongolia, Nicaragua, and North Korea, by Russian jeep, motorcycle, dugout canoe, horse and camel. An Associate Editor of Outpost Magazine, his article "Taklamakan: The Worst Desert in the World" was nominated for a Canadian National Magazine Award in 2006.

Murdock has a keen interest in marginal regions, in nomadic peoples, and in places where cultures meet and sometimes clash. He chose travel literature as a medium because it can be so many things: autobiography, history, anthropology, adventure, memoir, narrative, and even a catharsis... The best travel writing is all of these at once. He cites such disparate artists as Paul Theroux, Lawrence Durrell, Rimbaud, Jack Kerouac, Henry Miller, the explorer Sir Richard Francis Burton, and most importantly lyricist/musician/poet/painter Steve Kilbey of Australian spacerock legends The Church as his major influences, and he strives to bring the depth and richness of prose poetry to the descriptive aspect of his craft

In addition to prepping for his next adventure, Murdock is currently finishing the first in a projected series of books, this one a simultaneous interior and exterior journey through the jungles of Central America, the philosophy of travel, and the pivotal lessons of life on the road.
